    Description
“The thing to keep in mind is that everything is a point of departure.” This statement was reportedly overheard during the course of a 1946 Martha Graham performance spoken by an audience member to her mystified companion. I came across this anecdote last spring when preparing for a Dance History lesson on Graham’s work and thought it was such an inquisitive and adventurous approach to viewing and considering dance. Hence, page 214 of Deborah Jowitt’s Time and the Dancing Image became my first point of departure for tonight’s program, which now encompasses layers of inquiry, experience, and adventure that offer many possible points of departure for our viewing guests. In total, the program features twelve dance works that vary in style, design, imagery, and subject matter. Each work is mined from the unique dance artists that have created them and the talented dancers performing them. We aspire to entertain, to impress, to provoke, and surprise, but more than anything, we hope to nurture new points of departure for you as you experience these works – Stacy Pottinger
