    Evaluation of Parasitic Wasps as a Potentially Effective Biological Control for Invasive Emerald Ash Borer in North America

    Abstract
    Ash trees are vital in North America both as a part of the environment and as a resource. They are threatened however by Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), an invasive beetle from China. As millions of trees are killed by the beetle, it’s important to consider what management strategies can slow or prevent the spread of the beetle. It’s possible that the most effective strategies might be the implementation of other species from Asia, specifically stinger-less wasps which prey on EAB. These parasites are thought to have kept the borer under control in Asia and could provide the same role in North America. Evaluating the effectiveness of this approach is necessary prior to undergoing all the work required to implement the control method. Should these wasps prove effective at killing or hindering the behavior of EAB, they should be considered for usage in America and Canada.
