Mark Tandy was the postmaster for Dallas City, IL in the late 1800s. He was also a notable botanist and worked with Carthage professor Alice Kibbe.

This notebook, discovered amongst the records in the Carthage Biology Department, documents Tandy's work as a postmaster and his interest in sketching. In those days, letters which could not be delivered were advertised in a local paper before being sent to the dead letter office. Tandy's sketches show how the post office advertised their letters each month in accordance with USPS regulations.
