Student Perceptions of Academies of Interest and Talent Development

The purpose of this study was to survey sixth grade students' to determine their perceptions of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model of Academies of interest and Talent Development. The survey addressed the Schoolwide Enrichment Model components of real world problem solving, transfer of learning to core academics and positive experiences. The result of a 9 statement survey and one open ended statement showed positive perceptions from the 169 respondents. Students stated that although they viewed Academies as positive experiences the benefits to real world problem solving and transfer of learning to core academics were minimal. Many students shared ideas for a better Academy experience.
