The Effects of a Middle School Intramural Outreach Program on At-Risk Male Students
Abstract
This study was an investigation of the effects of a middle school Intramural
Outreach Program on at-risk males' achievement and behavior in school. The 15 at-risk
males were given weekly progress reports that measured their academic and behavioral
achievement on a 4-point Likert scale over an eight-week period based. These results
were averaged according to academics, behavior, and overall achievement. At the
conclusion of the program the students filled out a survey, which tapped their perceptions
of the motivational factors behind their academic achievement and behavior over the
eight-week period. The students showed an improvement in their overall academic and
behavioral achievement from the beginning to the end of the program.
