A Standards-Based Introductory Level French Curriculum Map
Abstract
As society, technology, and students change, education, instruction and curricula must
grow and change. The quest to keep instruction and methodology timely and relevant to
the learners while keeping a global view should inspire the creation of real-life activities
and modalities for their incorporation into the classroom. Based on research in the field
of curriculum design, this study develops an introductory French curriculum map that
introduces greater global awareness into a first year French program. Incorporating five
real~life premises as a context for French language acquisition, students are offered a
choice in the direction of their language learning. Tasks with writing components
provide language applications for students to successfully prepare to live out their
premise choices during the following year of their French language study.
