In recent years the interest in the Internet has increased dramatically. The theory and practice of foreign language teaching has discovered the World Wide Web's value as an educational tool that provides endless possibilities to communicate in the target language and to acquire aspects of the target culture. As this thesis will demonstrate, the Web has become the technical medium of preference for foreign language teaching because it is easily accessible and provides authentic materials related to the target language. This thesis provides Internet-based activities that, contextualized under the framework of a Virtual Trip to Spain, are pedagogically sound while still being motivating and interesting to the students. The activities have been designed so that learners of Spanish expand their linguistic knowledge while being exposed to a variety of authentic materials that broaden their cultural knowledge in their acquisition of the Spanish language.
