MetadataShow full item record
The purpose of this study was to analyze students who are first generation college students and compare the first generation students to those who are not first generation students attending college. The researcher examined the success rates of first generation students that were involved in their college's senior thesis program studying gender, ethnicity, and family income versus non-first generation senior thesis students. In this study the researcher collected data from first generation college students completing their senior thesis program at their college and compared this data to senior students in the senior thesis class who were not first generation students. Chi Square and t-test analysis were used to analyze the difference between male and female students. The t-test was used to find the difference between students' college GPAs comparing those that did not attend a college preparatory program and those that did. After analyzing the data the null hypotheses was accepted four out of the five times. This means there was no difference in GP A between students who attended a college preparatory program and students who did not attend a college preparatory program. There also was not a difference in the gender of students who attended a college preparatory program and ones that did not attend. There also was no difference in GPAs by ethnicity between bachelors and masters earners who were the first generation in their family to graduate from college. The investigator did find a difference between first generation students graduating from college and non-first generation students graduating in term oftheir parent's economic status.
