Analysis of Students' Understanding of the Japanese Expression Sumimasen: Approaching Sumimasen Through a Role-Play Activity
Abstract
Sumimasen is one of the most important contextual expressions in Japanese; this study tries to discover the students' understanding of Sumimasen and its different meanings by the implementation of role-playing activity which deals with the multiple-sense expression. An important concern is to examine if the unique characteristics that Sumimasen means both apology and gratitude can be understood by students.
