MetadataShow full item record
Bullying. It's a problem on the minds of educators, parents and state legislators. This thesis looked at bullying, its definition, categories, and effects on the participants of the bully-victim paradigm including bystanders. The role of bystanders has become a recognized key to solving the interpersonal aggression problems between peers. However, bystanders may suffer from "the bystander effect" hindering them from acting in a helpful prosocial manner. The problem of bullying and the phenomena surrounding bystanders were examined by looking at previous research studies. In addition, research regarding some bullying prevention programs including that of world-famous researcher Dan Olweus was discussed. The purpose of this study was to examine a local urban school district's Olweus bullying curriculum through a lens of previous research regarding bullying and bystanders.
