    Abstract
    The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between underrepresentation of African Americans in advanced mathematics courses and performance on standardized tests. The study investigated the factors associated with why students of other races are being exposed to advanced courses more than African American students. Another factor investigated was the overrepresentation in special education and discipline program in schools by African Americans a variety of teacher factors, socioeconomic status, and family background along with the cultural environment they grow up in.
