    Abstract
The purpose of this project is to create an independent reading program for teachers that encourages students to select appropriate literature and that increases students' motivation to develop a habit of reading for recreation that can be used in the high school block schedule setting (90 minute classes). The driving force behind this project is the lack of time students seem to spend independently reading. This project provides a guidebook for teachers to help them encourage students to read with in-class time for reading as well as tools to help them find books they want to read and books they will enjoy reading. Providing adequate tools and a rich reading environment will allow students to feel more comfortable picking up a book and reading. This project includes the tools needed to start a classroom-reading project and is adaptable for different grade levels.
