Essentials for Graduate Assistant Programs

Abstract

Effective organization of graduate assistantship programs are a key to successful athletic programs. This thesis project researched various educational coaching methods as well as ways to improve graduate assistant programs at an institution. The research then was used to create a guide for athletic and academic departments to collaboratively work together to promote a positive work experience as well as getting the most out of these interns. The guide included five characteristics that institutions should consider when creating or reevaluating their program. The guide then goes on to establish a checklist for athletic and academic departments to measure if they have been met.
