Guide to Differentiated Instructions for High School English Language Arts Teachers
Abstract
Differentiation is a strategy that is used by teachers to address the diversity of student ability, student interest, cultural factors, and learning profiles in classrooms. Although differentiation is a relevant focus in the field of education, some teachers lack exposure and training in this concept. In addition, empirical research regarding differentiation in high school English language arts classrooms is limited. This Guide to Differentiated Instruction for High School English Language Arts Teachers addresses how differentiation of curricular content, teaching and learning processes, work products, and classroom environments can improve engagement, achievement, and social well-being of students. The guide includes artifacts that English Language Arts teachers can use to provide meaningful instruction to diverse student populations. An expert panel that included three members evaluated the artifacts using the tool contained in Chapter 3. The results of the evaluation discussed in Chapter 4 and the guide are located in the appendix.
