The Boundaries Between Syntax and Semantics: A Linguistic Analysis of Two Japanese Particles, and Improved Teaching Strategies in the L2 Classroom

Just as Chomsky proposed in his most recent version of Universal Grammar, new syntactic and semantic analysis here is examined on the assumption that Japanese is a non-configurational language. This analysis was completed through the examination of Japanese postpositional particles wa and ga, and they were defined differently from their definition in conventional grammar. Consequently, the teaching strategies of both particles should differ from what we have previously assumed. I have examined three different textbooks, and shown how they have embodied the real aspects of both particles.
