Traditional and Contemporary Influences on the Artists' Book
MetadataShow full item record
This research was done to examine finepress book design and private press printing traditions in comparison to contemporary finepress artists' books. The renaissance of finepress printing was based on traditional medieval techniques and aesthetics. By researching traditional formal and aesthetic concerns of finepress book design, a chart listing relevant criteria has been formulated. Based on this chart of traditional concerns, comparisons and contrasts were made to distinguish similarities evident in contemporary artists' books. The subjects in this study were limited to one historical and one contemporary finepress printer. Many of the traditional finepress printing standards emphasize the essentials taught in the visual design classes and are evident in the artists' book.
