    Abstract
Within this study a checklist was used as an assessment instrument to rate the elements of good read-aloud literature related to the goals and objectives for the study of World War II in an eighth grade history textbook. Five evaluators analyzed twenty read-aloud books for nine criteria related to the elements of good read-aloud literature and the goals and objectives in an eighth grade history textbook. It was found that all twenty of the read-aloud books were good literature and addressed one or more history objectives and could; therefore, be used to support the eighth grade history chapter on World War II.
