    Abstract
In an effort to provide a clearer understanding of the position of education and counseling by collegiate athletic trainers, a study was developed to examine the evolving role and position of education and counseling within the role delineation of collegiate athletic trainers at Division levels I, II, and ill. This paper will provide a better understanding of the educational and counseling activities and the time spent within each domain for athletic trainers at the collegiate level, as well as gain opinion on the status of education and counseling by collegiate athletic trainers. Two-hundred and ninety-four questionnaires were mailed to collegiate athletic trainers (randomly selected), and values (percentages) were given for time spent utilizing educational and counseling activities with each of the five domains as defined by the 1995 Role delineation study. Participants were asked to give an opinion as to the current status or evolving role of educational and counseling activity as a collegiate athletic trainer. Results indicate that 78% of the respondents feel that there is an increase in activity as a collegiate athletic trainer with an average of 16.5% of their time utilizing educational and counseling types of activity. This information will serve as a useful guide for defining education; and counseling activity as well as time spent in specific domains for collegiate athletic trainers, and provide groundwork for additional research to further assess this population and the content area.
