The Effects of Fifth Graders' Comprehension of Social Studies Text that is Listened to While Being Read
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the reading while listening strategy on fifth graders' comprehension of social studies concepts. Using a post-test only design and applying a 1 test for independent samples. It was found that the treatment groups achieved significantly higher scores on the Houghton Mifflin end of the unit test. It was conc~uded that the Rwl strategy was more effective in promoting comprehension than was reading silently.
