An Investigation of Children's Trade Books for Use in Application of the Skills and Strategies Expected to be Taught in a Fourth Grade Basal

Using the skills and strategies expected to be taught in a fourth grade basal, a list of criteria for those skills and strategies was created. Children's trade books were then examined for the criteria within the list. 78% of the books met the criteria for at least one of the strategies. Another list was created that consisted of those books which met the strategy criteria. The list of books was created to provide teachers with a resource that can supplement their strategy instruction.
