As a capstone to my musical education at Carthage, I will perform a senior recital featuring music that will challenge my technique and lyricism. With composers ranging from J. Ed Barat to Cody Fry, I will attempt to present each piece with a complete sense of my personal musical understanding that I have acquired from taking 7 consecutive semesters of trumpet lessons. The program notes that are written will aid the audience in being able to understand the background knowledge of each piece, and will provide contextual information allowing them to enjoy my performance on a deeper level. My instrumental study: 7 semesters of trumpet lessons with Russ Johnson, 7 semesters of Wind Orchestra, 3 semesters of Jazz Ensemble, as well as classes such as Trumpet Pedagogy, Music Theory, Form and Analysis, and Music History have aided my personal connection and understanding of the music that I will perform. I believe that these pieces will challenge the struggles of my learning and give me an opportunity to show what I have taken in and learned thus far.en_US
