Chosen to perform at a major regional conference, the Carthage Women’s Ensemble will complete its 2016 midwinter tour with a concert on campus at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28 in the A. F. Siebert Chapel. The concert will celebrate the group’s return from a conference of the North Central Division of the American Choral Directors Association. From a large pool of applicants, the Women’s Ensemble was invited to perform at the biennial event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The original program, titled “Then Sings My Soul,” is united by texts that express feelings of hope, faith, love, and freedom. These texts are drawn from mystic poets in the Sufi and Christian traditions; Biblical, liturgical, and hymn texts; Elizabethan and Romantic-era poetry; Eastern European folk songs; and contemporary American poets. Conducted by Peter Dennee, the Women’s Ensemble has performed at venues in Washington and Baltimore, as well as internationally in China, Slovakia, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
