The Carthage College Wind Orchestra and the Belle City Brassworks brass band present the annual “John Hemkes Memorial Concert”.
The concert will feature the dynamic sound of the Brassworks with over 45 brass and percussion musicians and conducted by Douglas Johnson. Also featured and hosting is the Carthage Wind Orchestra conducted by Professor James Ripley. The Carthage Wind Orchestra has the unique ability to change the sound of the ensemble based on the composer’s intent and musical style period which is at the heart of the wind orchestra philosophy. The wind orchestra layers the timbres of each instrument, rather than mixing them for a more colorful effect. Also performing their prize winning solos will be the three outstanding winners of the recent John Hemkes Memorial Scholarship Auditions: 1st Place, Katie Hillstrom - Trumpet, Indian Trail High School, Kenosha 2nd Place, Samuel Lail – Euphonium, Horlick High School, Racine 3rd Place, Alexandrea Rakowski, Tuba, Bradford High School, Kenosha
