In astronomical spectroscopy, echelle spectrographs are frequently used due to several benefits: the wide wavelength coverage they offer, efficient use of detector space, exceedingly linear wavelength dispersion, and high spectroscopic resolution, all in a fairly compact package. While echelle spectrographs are used frequently, various disadvantages, such as strong blaze functions short slits, present difficulties in the study of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs). By introducing synthetic broad features of known DIBs into pre-‐reduction echelle data, possible profile changes can potentially be identified and used to make corrections to the data reduction process as well as determining the reliability of other measurements based on the existing data.
